In the past 24 hours I have, accidentally, stabbed my fingers multiple times with straight pins, received paper cuts on multiple digits, burned my hands with hot glue, stuck my fingers together with gem tack glue, and started some decent scissor grip blisters... all while working to create items for my shop, and it's got me thinking.
I'm thinking back to all the years of abuse my hands have suffered in the name of creation. I'm thinking of that time I broke a sewing machine needle off through my finger while prepping for my first fashion show. I'm thinking of the regular occurrence of paper cuts, each time I hastily pull out a sheet of tracing paper for pattern making. I'm thinking of my routine "ouch!" exclamations every time I jab myself with a pin (which is often), and my partner's joking response - "be careful!" whilst we both know that I won't. Because, you see, the pain is part of the craft.
I owe my hands so much. Crafting, sewing, creating is such a rugged discipline, despite the stereotypes of feminine fragility (though, really, how could femininity ever equate to fragility??). Despite the pain (or maybe because of it...) I love this work. And I am blessed to have the mobility and strength to do it.
So, as I step back to scissoring through sense faux fur and build upon these blisters, I say a deeply appreciative thank you to my hands and fingers and passion. ❤❤❤ #grateful #crafting #creator #hazardous #workhard #thankful #wounds
