Sunday Cocktail Hour: Johann Goes to Mexico vs Daiquiri No. 4 #cocktailrobot
It’s a rainy dreary day here in the Big Stink. Let’s make two cocktails!
¡Hagamos dos cócteles!
“Johann Goes to Mexico” (created by Josey Packard at Drink in Boston (per @punchdrink)) I came across while looking for Angostura-heavy cocktails and it turns out it was created by a bartender who is married to a dear high-school pal. So, that’s fun. I tweaked it a bit: Instead of Angostura I used Amargo-Vallet (from CDMX) and instead of demerara syrup I used agave. That’s fun, right?
1 1/2 ounces mezcal (Mezal Vago Elote)
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce Angostura bitters
1/2 ounce demerara syrup
Shake with ice. Strain.
Tasty. Smoky and herbal as you’d expect.
“Daiquiri No. 4” I came across while re-reading the Sasha Petraske “Regarding Cocktails” book. Which I adore. I have some Maraschino liqueur that I can’t stand and I need to go back to the standard Luxardo version. Nonetheless. User the amazing Plantation Pineapple Rum as well.
0.75 ounce maraschino liqueur
0.75 ounce lime juice
2 once white rum (see my note above)
Shake with ice + strain + garnish with a cherry.
It’s a fun daiquiri. Will make again.
