And just like that, we finally reached the summit. What a relief. I've been here before but the struggle made it all worth so much more. Of course, we still had to go all the way down again to base immediately since this was a dayhike but it didn't matter much anymore. The deed was done.
Would I go climb the Philippines' highest mountain again? At 2,954 meters (9,692 ft) above sea level, it wasn't a joke to complete the climb within a day. But yes, I definitely would do it again, albeit at a much slower pace, ideally overnight. The mountain is too beautiful to miss seeing what it can offer.
The question really is, why do we climb? As one of the world's best climbers, Reinhold Messner, said in his book: “Climbing is all about freedom, the freedom to go beyond all the rules and take a chance, to experience something new, to gain insight into human nature… For me, imagination is more important in climbing than muscle or daredevil antics.” I agree 100%. ❤
