In August this year my Mum, my best friend was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. She had life saving surgery at the QMC in Nottingham where coils were successfully placed, preventing the aneurysm from growing further. Though her life was saved she lost the use of her left eye through nerve damage. We still don’t know if she will recover from this but we are on the road to recovery. In October this year she was strong enough to take in some sea air on a windy beach in Mablethorpe, where this image was captured. This is my Mum in recovery and smiling again.
This was an unposed, candid moment shot on a LUMIX GF6. I chose to strip away the colour to focus on her expression of joy, forgetting for a moment, her illness.
