@dashapears.art Why do I edit my models? I risk to become very unpopular 🧟♀️with this post, but I feel there’s a need for it.
I change the shapes of bodies and faces because I can and because those changes are in line with my vision.
It’s not because I think that my models lack something or that they are ugly. It’s not because I want to make them feel bad about themselves. In fact, I do fall in love with people I photograph and it happens all the time. If that doesn’t happen the magic of the photo is not even present.
But. I am and surreal photographer, I don’t have a goal of creating realistic portraits and of showing how beautiful people are in all their diversity. I create my own reality! It has skinny people with particular facial features, paper birds, awkward poses and stuff flying all over. My work shows ME. You may or may not like it.
Who said our realities should be the same? Would you ask Picasso why he painted portraits of people that have both eyes on one side of their faces like flatfish?
