Ever since I was a child, I’ve had an unusual ability to lose things. Binders of school work that desperately needed to be turned in, more than 10 pairs of glasses, a beloved gold pendant, my cast iron skillet I’d finally gotten perfectly seasoned (how does one even lose a CAST IRON SKILLET).
This year, I lost a two of my most valuable possessions, and it’s been extremely painful. Two rings that were not only valuable by earthly standards, but by sentimental ones as well.
In the time that’s passed since I realized they were gone, I have searched in every imaginable place they could be, cried over them, seen them in my dreams at least once a week. But still, they’re lost to me.
I think we are all born with different burdens and traits we wish we could be rid of. This is one of my big ones, among others. I know God works in mysterious ways, and losing things has most certainly kept me on my knees and taught me. Humbleness, patience, persistence, being truthful, being present, not taking too much stock in material possessions, and the big one—forgiveness.
That being said, I would love to be reunited with my rings. So, swipe to see them, and if you happen to recognize these rings and know where they are, I will love you forever (and scream and cry and jump up and down).
